Family Sponsorship
Besides spouses and partners, Canadian permanent residents and citizens can sponsor dependent children and parents and grandparents.
Dependent Children
Adopted and biological children can be sponsored for permanent residence. They generally need to be under the age of 22 and unmarried. Please note that this process is different from the process of acquiring citizenship for your child.
Other Sponsorships
There can be some exceptions for sponsoring other family members, and one such program includes sponsorship of an orphaned relative if you have no other family living in Canada.
Exceptions are sometimes made under Humanitarian and Compassionate reasons, but are rare and processing times are long. If you believe you may have such a case, please contact us to discuss your options.
Parents and Grandparents
There are programs available for Canadians to sponsor both their parents or grandparents. This program is currently PAUSED for intake. Another option for bringing these relatives to Canada is the Super Visa.
If approved for the Super Visa, the parents/grandparent will be granted a multi-entry visa for visits to Canada of up to 5 years at a time and it is valid for up to 10 years. There are specific requirements for this program, but it is an option for bringing family closer.
